James Creery Memorial Prize Winner: Joshua Turk

The Department of Philosophy congratulates Joshua Turk on being awarded the James Creery Memorial Prize for his paper, "Free Will Is No Illusion: Why Hard Determinism Is Self-Defeating." Thanks to all the philosophers who contributed their papers to the competition! It was rewarding to review so many good essays. We're very proud of all the competitors.

May 11 deadline: Trent's Philosophy paper prize


The Philosophy Department is pleased to announce the annual competition for the 

James Creery Memorial Prize

established in memory of James Harold Creery, a Trent student of Philosophy in 1972-74.  The prize is awarded annually for the best philosophical essay written by an undergraduate at Trent.  We ask that the essays be submitted in electronic form by attachment as a .doc or .docx file.  Submissions should be sent to:
creeryprize [at] gmail [dot] com

The deadline for consideration of your submitted paper is May 11, 2015. Late papers are not considered.

Humanities Symposium at Traill College April 13

Trent Humanities Week starts Monday, and all are welcome!

The symposium will showcase some of the exciting things coming out of the Humanities and include presentations on research and teaching from Trent faculty members, as well as a free speech discussion inspired by the Charlie Hebdo event in Paris earlier this year.
